Breast Wellness Centre (Pty) Ltd (“the Practice”) is committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and security of personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and applicable healthcare legislation. We process personal information to provide healthcare services and operate our medical facility responsibly.

2. Information We Collect

We collect and process the following categories of information:

• Personal Information: Full name, ID number, contact details, medical aid information, and billing details.
• Special Personal Information (Health Information): Medical history, breast imaging studies (mammography, ultrasound, MRI), radiology reports, biopsy results, and clinical notes.

3. Purpose of Processing

Personal information is processed for purposes including healthcare provision, diagnostic services, clinical decision-making, treatment planning, billing, and regulatory compliance.

4. Imaging Storage and Security

Breast imaging studies are stored in secure Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). We implement technical and organisational safeguards, including secure electronic medical record systems and password protection, to protect your data.

5. Sharing of Information

Information may be shared with referring doctors, radiographers, laboratories, medical aid schemes, and regulatory authorities where necessary for your care or required by law.

6. Data Retention

Medical records are retained in accordance with HPCSA requirements, generally for at least 6 years for adults, or until a minor reaches age 21.

7. Your Rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to request access to your personal information, request corrections to inaccurate data, or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
